Fay Carpenter Garman, 89, of Lititz passed away Tuesday, March 18th at Luther Acres. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Scott Garman; her one son Gregory, husband of Vicki Garman, Richmond, VA, and their three children Sarah, Elizabeth and Matthew as well as her other son Jesse, husband of Arlene Garman, New Bern, NC, and their daughter Abigail.

Fay had a career as a teacher starting out in the same one room school house where her mother also taught. She was then involved in bringing speech therapy into the Lancaster area schools before she retired. In retirement and even before, Fay enjoyed travel adventures. She spent time in Europe, the Caribbean and the Holy Land, even riding a camel for her 70th birthday. She and Scott enjoyed taking cruises, having traveled through the Panama Canal and around Cape Horn as well as crossing the Atlantic. Finally Fay has been a lifelong member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. She has the distinction of being the first woman elected as Church Council President and was active on the Church Archives committee for many years. One of the steeple bells was donated by Fay and Scott in honor of her mother.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fay's Life Celebration Funeral Service on Monday, March 31, 2014 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 W. Orange Street, Lititz, PA with the Rev. James R. Gable, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Machpelah Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. Daily News, Lebanon, Pa., Monday, June 14,1954 Mrs. V. Scott Garman Miss C. Fay Carpenter Wed In Lititz To V. Scott Garman Miss G. Fay Carpenter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Cullen Carpenter of 115 West Third Ave., Lititz, became the bride of V. Scott Garman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Garman, 25 North Fifth St., Lebanon, in a candlelight ceremony at eight o'clock Saturday evening in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lititz. Rev. Francis R. Bell officiated, at an altar banked with ferns and palms and lighted with white tapers in tall candelabra. Mrs. Marlin Allen, of Brownstown, was the organist. Mimi Blazer, of Aberdeeri, Scotland, now a resident of Carlisle, was the soloist. Violin music was played by Svea Jean Eckert of Lititz. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of blush pink Duchess satin with imported lace over the bodice, sleeves, mitts and the border, of the c a t h edral train. Rhinestone points and iridescent seed pearls decorated the bodice the train. A broad border of lace banded the skirt and the train. She wore a veil of blush pink tulle in cathedral length, studded with pin - point rhinestones and fastened to a rhinestone coronet. She wore the pearls worn by her mother on her own wedding day, and carried the same Bible carried by her mother. The Bible held a shower of lily of the valley and phlanopsis. "The bride's attendants were: Mrs. Fred Weilinga, matron of honor; Miss Annette Miller and Mrs. Arthur Reist, both of Lancaster, Miss Joan Lowe, Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Simon Hartman Jr., Hegins, senior bridesmaids; Miss Barbara Bushong, Lititz, and Miss Molly Louise Bushong, Kennett Square, junior bridesmaids; and Debbie Conrad, Lebanon, grand-niece of the bridegroom nnd daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Conrad, flower girl. All of the attendants wore identical gowns of net over taffeta, with net capes that extended into deep V's in back. The full net skirts were topped with taffeta in apron j effect and ended in bustles. The honor attendants wore gowns of blue over rose taffeta; two bridesmaids wore yellow net over dusty rose taffeta; and two wore lavender net over rose taffeta; the junior bridesmaids were in pink net over leaf-green. All wore lattice caps and net mitts to match their gowns and had matching fans with sprays of pink roses and gypsophilia. The flower girl wore a long gown of pink net over taffeta, the full skirt caught up with rosebuds to show a hooped petticoat. She carried a basket of rosebuds and wore a tiara of fluted net and wristlets of: matching net- William Rineer served as best man. Senior ushers were Russell Garman Jr., Lebanon, nephew of the bridegroom; Arthur Golden Lancaster; Lawrence Conrad and Paul Bowman, both of Lebanon Kenneth Bushong of Lititz and Frederick Bigler of Lancaster were junior ushers- Mark Fahnestock of Lititz served as ring bearer. After a reception at the General Sutter Hotel in Lititz, the couple left on a wedding trip to Cape Cod. The bride is a graduate of Lititz High School and Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh. She has also done graduate work at Duke University, Durham, NC., and in Oxford, England. She is a teacher in Carlisle schools. Mr. Garman is a graduate of Lebanon High School and Indiana State Teachers College, aid is now teaching in the Palmyra schools. Both will do graduate work at Franklin and Marshall College this summer.
