DEATH OF MR. JAMES CADWELL:

Mr. James Cadwell, on of the earliest settlers in this part of the country, died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. L.L. Burch, in Telfair County, on the 24th day of June 1884, after a brief illness. He was about 92 years of age, according to the best date obtainable, as stated by his son Andy. He raised a large family of children-seven sons and four daughters. He lost five sons in the war, and the other two, Messrs. Wesley and Andy both received painful wounds while battling for their country's rights. They, however, are now both good and useful citizens of this country, and succesful farmers. Mr. Andy Cadwell has been engaged in the naval store business with Mr. W.P. Burt of Chauncey.

The four daughters are all married, two of whom live in this county, one in Telfair and one in Laurens.

Mr. Cadwell was remarkably blessed with good health from his boyhood. He was a great hunter, when game was plentiful in this country-having moved here before the lions were driven off. He was a fine marksman, and even up to the time of his death his eyesight never failed him, and he took great delight in shooting squirrels with his rifle, such other small game as he could find around the plantation. He never needed spectacles. He had been a consistent member of the Baptist church for a great many years, and was always regarded as a good man and good citizen.

He leaves a large family connection and many friends to mourn his loss.
