Elmer's parents were Emma (Carlson) and Matt Lake both born in Finland. He married Helen (Elsner) on 6 April 1921 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
Together they had two sons and a daughter:
Henry Elmer Lakey born 17 Aug 1922
Charles Mathew Lakey born 24 June 1924
Irene E. Lakey born 1926
He was an ambulance driver in World War I having served a tour in France.
Elmer was killed when he was struck by a car on a highway in Longview, Washington.
