Funeral services for Mrs. A. R. Appenheimer, 60, well known resident of this community for many years, were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at Kidd Funeral home in this city.
Mrs. Appenheimer died unexpectedly at 2 o'clock Monday morning, July 22, 1957, at her home in the southwest part of this city after being ill only a short time.
Rev. Eugene Anderson, pastor of Toulon Baptist church, officiated.
Mrs. Robert Schmidt, organist, accompanied C. P. Patterson, who sang "In the Garden."
Body bearers were all sons-in-law of Mrs. Appenheimer: Roy Schmidt, Haydn Murray, Lawrence McDonald, Dean Young, Phillip Omanson, and Rollin H. Pugh.
Burial was in Evergreen Memory Gardens cemetery..
America, daughter of B. F. and Deborah Taulbee Swango, was born April 5, 1897, in Campton, Kentucky.
She moved with her parents to Toulon when she was a young girl and attended Toulon schools.
She was married October 4, 1917, to Alpheus R. Appenheimer and for a number of years they lived on a farm south of Toulon before moving to their residence at southwest edge of this city.
Mrs. Appenheimer was an active member of Toulon Baptist church, Toulon Royal Neighbor lodge, Toulon Rebekah lodge and Toulon unit of American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her father; six daughters and a son, Dorothy, Mrs. Roy Schmidt, of Toulon; Betty, Mrs. Lawrence McDonald, of Elmhurst; Juanita, Mrs. Haydn Murray, of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey; Kathryn, Mrs. Dean Young, of Joliet; Glenna, Mrs. Phillip Omanson, Wethersfield; Vonnie, Mrs. Rollin H. Pugh, of Toulon, and Clay Appenheimer, of Pawpaw, Illinois.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters: Alfred Swango, of Calexico, California; Ernest Swango, of Toulon; Gordon Swango, of Norfolk, Virginia; Robert Swango, of California; Mrs. Mae Bradford, of Westmont; Mrs. Clae Draudt, of Toulon; and Mrs. Edna Bersbach, of Chicago.
She is preceded in death by her mother and a grandson, Thomas Brett Appenheimer.
