Phillip Alvin Hyde, 88, of the Atoah Community in Robbinsville, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Murphy Medical Center. A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Robert Virgil and Thelma Hooper Hyde. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Elizabeth Wagner Hyde; his sons, Benjamin Hyde and David Allen Hyde; his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rojas; and his brother, Reid Hyde. Phillip was a Veteran of both the US Army and US Navy, serving a total of 32 years. He served during WWII, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Stewart of Robbinsville, NC; his sons, Phillip Alvin Hyde, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, Robert Hyde of Stecoah, NC, and Michael Hyde, Andrew Hyde, and Kenneth Hyde, all of Robbinsville, NC; and his sisters, Hazel Hayes, Regina Willis, and Doris Goodman, all of Gastonia, NC, and Dot Collins, of Robbinsville, NC. He has 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Metz Cemetery. The Reverend Harold Beasley will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by Eller Rogers American Legion Post 192 and Carringer Webster VFW Post 8635. Townson-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
