Abiel was in business with his father Lewis until his father's death in February 1839. Abial and brother, Elijah, introduced carding and spinning machinery at the old mill. In 1844 a new mill was built near the old structure. Abiel operated the mill until 1863, when Elijah bought out his interest. In 1862 a general store was built for the employees of the mill and in 1866 a cotton mill was erected. Elijah was admitted into partnership with Charles B. Coon. The firm was dissolved in 1881 at which time Mr. Kenyon's son, John S. Kenyon, succeeded Mr. Coon, and the Mill name was changed to "E. Kenyon & Son."
