"ORPHAN MAY BE ADOPTED Ten year old Floyd Grable. whose father was instantly killed in the accident, was taken yesterday to the home of Mrs. A. Uehlinger in Vallejo after he had recovered from the effects of the collision. Although sitting right beside his father in the car, he escaped injury. Grandfather David Henry Grabill received custody of James' two sons after his death. 26 August 1913, the boys' mother Myrtle S. Williams, with her husband Michael S. Williams kidnapped the boys, under the alias Mr. & Mrs. C.K. Slater, and under false statement as C.K. Slater employed as a police officer. D.H. Grabill had the couple arrested and regained custody of the boys. http://oregonnews.uoregon.edu/lccn/sn83025138/1913-08-27/ed-1/seq-4/

According to the 1920 Federal Census, James' sons Floyd O., age 12, and Robert E., age 9, lived with their grandparents and uncle, David H. Grabill/Grable, Julia A. Grabill/Grable, and uncle Oren G. Grabill/Grable in Ione, Morrow County, Oregon.

A maritime lithograph of "All Hands To The Pump" by the famous artist Henry Scott Tuke, was found by new owners (abt 2014) of the house Floyd's parents, David & Julia Grabill, built about 1896. This lithograph was in the walls of the attic, inside a media canister, and is from the late 1880's -1900's. It was addressed in calligraphy to Mrs. D.H. Grabill, Ione Oregon, Morrow County with eight 2-cent stamps on it.

He is (buried) in Sunrise Cemetery on Sacramento St., in the Redman's plot without a headstone. I (Chip Carter) took a picture of his location. The Independent Order Of Redman (IOOR) own this plot and buried members for free back then. They still exist today in Vallejo. He is not buried at Mare Island because (he served his duty and then worked as a civilian for the US Navy). He is shown as Joseph, not James. (See burial card). Section CU, Lot 3, Block 1, Grave 4. His birth date is a guess at 1875 according to the groundskeeper. Three miles outside Vallejo is probably almost the Napa County line, (and very close to the train wreck).
