Lauretha was born in either Scotland or Philadelphia, but in either case grew up in Pennsylvania. She was married to Simon Moon on September 27, 1721. They lived in Simon's log house in Bucks, which is preserved in the Fallsington Historic District, then moved to Chester County, where some of her children were born. In 1740 she moved with her husband and children to the new Quaker settlement in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. She died sometime prior to February, 1748, when her husband made out his will.

She gave birth to the following children, and perhaps others:
Anna (1722-1789)
Richard (1724-1795)
James M (1727-1798)
Hannah (1729-1799)
John (1730-)
Jacob (1731-1804)
Margaret (1731-1838)
Mary (1733-1750)
Rachel (1734-1804)

Two of her daughters, Hannah and Margaret, married sons of Thomas and Ruth Brown and migrated to North Carolina, where they helped found a new Quaker settlement. Her son Richard married Susannah Brown, a daughter of Thomas and Ruth Brown, and they later migrated to North Carolina and then to Georgia. Her daughter Rachel was married to Henry Thorburgh and they moved to North Carolina and then Tennessee. The other children remained in Virginia.

Gravesite Details

There is no identifiable headstone. Quaker markers at this time were often just field stones with no inscription or just an initial.
