The following is from the Mason City Globe-Gazette newspaper, August 2, 1955:

John Veach Service Set for Wedneday

Requiem high mass will be celebrated for John Veach, 86, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dougherty. Father A. A. McAvoy will officiate. Mr. Veach died Monday at Mason City hospital. He had lived in the Dougherty vicinity for 56 years, having moved to Mason City last September to make his home at ___ (unreadable) Washington NW. Born November 4, 1869 in Jackson County, he was the son of Michael and Mary (Small) Veach. He was married to Anna Kelsh December 21, 1901 at Lamont. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary December 21, 1951. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty. Surviving are his wife, a sister, Nan McGiffney, San Diego, Calif., and a brother, Charles Veach, Otter Creek. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Genevieve, four brothers, and threes sisters. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery, Dougherty. Friends may call at the Colonial funeral home until the time of services.
