Wanda "Maxine" Simpson Calame was born in Colorado City, Texas on November 24, 1928 to James Ersey Simpson and Vera Thomas Simpson. She was married to James Doyle Calame on August 14, 1949 in Colorado City and they shared 64 years of great devotion and love to one another and their family. Maxine and James met at Texas State University, Commerce, Texas, where she graduated.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and her sister Shirley Simpson Ballard. Maxine died May 18, 2015, surrounded by family and prayer, one year and one week after James' death.

Maxine is survived by her son, Martin Douglas Calame, her daughter, Amy Kathleen Hudson and son-in-law, Don Hudson, grandchildren and one great grandson.

Maxine had begged her children for grandchildren and then in one year, 1989, they were blessed with three. Caleb Benjamin Calame, and the twins, Dustin "Dusty" and Rusty Hudson. The grandchildren to follow were Heisha Freeman and her husband, Tony, and Alex Hudson. Rusty's wife, Carolina, and one great grandson, Austin Freeman.

These grands and great grands are one of the greatest joys of Maxine and James' life together. After James' death and even with declining health, Maxine continue to grow spiritually. She blessed those who lived with her in the group home as she prayed with the them, listened to them and became their friend. No one will ever forget her delicious, make from scratch, apple cake. People in her neighborhood competed to be on the receiving end of one of her "Maxine" pies.

Inurnment will take place at the National Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas where she will rest next to her husband, James.
