Vera Simpson Stricklan, 70, of Sweetwater died Thursday in the Morton Hospital in Dallas following a lengthly illness. Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in
Colorado City. Harold Fly, pastor of the Westside Baptist Church of Sweetwater, officiated with the Reverend Glenn Roenfeldt, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Colorado City, assisting.

Burial was in the Colorado City Cemetery under the direction Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

She was born Vera Thomas on March 1, 1909 in Martins Mill. She married James Ersie Simpson on July 11,1927 in Westbrook. They lived in Westbrook for a few years and then lived in Colorado City until his death April 4, 1970. She then married Leonard Stricklan in 1975 in Colorado City and then moved to Sweetwater. After moving to Sweetwater she became a member of the Westside Baptist Church.

She was a sales clerk while living in Colorado, member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Shirley Ballard of Colorado City and Maxine Calame of Richardson; one brother, Bill Thomas of Colorado City and five grandchildren of the immediate family.

Pallbearers were Willie Landau, Wayne Shawn, Steve Shawn, John Stricklan and Jack Stricklan.
