Homer A. Forbes, 46, who lived on the Lake Road southwest of Ottumwa, died suddenly at his home at 7:15 a.m. today.
He had been in ill health for six months. Death was due to a heart attack.
He was an employee of John Morrell & Co. For 28 years. He had been in the canning department most recently.
He was a son of Norris A. and Odessa Crawford Forbes, born in Putnam County, Mo., Sept. 11, 1914. He had lived in Ottumwa 35 years.
He and Frances Leeling were married Oct. 21, 1944, at Lawton, Okla. She survives. There is a son Robert Eugene Forbes of Marksville, La.; three daughters, Mrs. Karen E. Swartz, Miami, Fla, Judy Ann and JoEllen, both at home; five grandchildren; his mother who lives in Ottumwa; three brothers, Walter Forbes of Centerville, Rev. Milton Forbes of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dewain Forbes of Garland, Tex.; and two sisters, Mrs. Gertha Simmons and Mrs. Verla Belger, both of Ottumwa.
His father died Jan. 6, 1961. Two brothers also preceded him in death.
He served in World War II, enlisting Aug. 14, 1944 in the Army. He had duty at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and in Germany and France. He was separated from the Army Feb. 10, 1945.
The body is at the Johnson Funeral Chapel awaiting completion of funeral arrangements.
