Richard Ermal Barker was born July 14, 1921 to Ermal and Fern Groendyke Barker in Elmwood Community, Beaver County, Oklahoma. At the age of three, the family moved to the old homestead of Grandpa Morton Groendyke. Richard grew up farming and raising livestock with his dad.

Richard was saved at the Apostolic Faith Camp Meeting in Granby, MO in 1942. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps that same year.

Richard met Esther Lewis of Bayard, NE at the Apostolic Faith Camp Meeting in Baxter Springs, KS in 1945. They were married December 9th of that year. They made their home in the Elmwood Community. They helped in revival meetings in numerous places, as far away as Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. In 1949, their home was blessed with a baby girl, Lois Marie. Richard continued farming with his Dad until 1953, then moved to Katy and started farming and raising cattle with his cousin, Raymond Barker. In 1959, their home was blessed again with another daughter, Starla Fern. Richard went to work for Mr. J. Des Woods in 1971 on the rice farm.

They attend the Apostolic Faith Church in Katy, Texas, where Richard served on the Church Board for 21 years.

Richard Ermal Barker passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014, in Houston, at the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 1 day.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Esther; daughters, Lois Marie Bell and her husband Russ, and Starla Fern Tyler and her husband Travis; grandchildren, Amy, Heather, Sarah, Jason, Adrienne, and Timothy; nine great grandchildren; sister, Roberta Methvin; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Winston, Walter, and Leslie.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Trinity Apostolic Faith Church, in Katy, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, with Rev. Jim Fox, Dr. Phillip Clements, and Rev. Ted Barker officiating. He will be laid to rest in Katy Magnolia Cemetery to await the Resurrection Revelations 20:5.
