Grandmother And Child Are Killed By Bus

A 56-year-old grandmother and her 9-month-old grandchild were injured fatally early yesterday evening when they were struck by a bus on the Philadelphia road at Race road.

The woman, Mrs. Frances Kaniecki, of Raspeburg, was carrying the child, Joseph Francis Kaniecki, as she crossed the main highway in the vicinity of her home.

Lewis Balle, 37, Negro, of the 800 block of Harlem avenue, told Patrolmen Albert Davis and Robert Rumpf, of the Essex district, that she walked into the path of his vehicle as she crossed the express lane.

Both were pronounced dead on arrival at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Balle is held in default of $1,000 bail at the Essex Police Station for action of the Baltimore county medical examiner.
