PONTOTOC – Betty Brown Allen, 84, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Pontotoc Health and Rehab Center (Graceland) in Pontotoc. She was born on Nov. 10, 1929, in Biloxi. She married the Rev. Wade Allen Sr. on July 2, 1948, and shared more than 65 years of marriage together, raising four children and impacting the lives of many more. She was a devoted wife and mother and strong Christian example to all who knew her. She served as secretary and all around helper to her husband in his service as pastor and later director of missions. She was a continuous source of strength to the many pastors and pastor's wives with whom they served. She loved to work with young people and deeply enjoyed music as was evidenced in her countless hours as GA teacher/leader, children's choir and activities leader, church choir, hand bells and Sunday school teacher. She was also an integral member of the Doris Compere WMU Circle. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pontotoc.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wade Allen Sr.; a daughter, Laurie Jo Allen; a grandson, Lee Wiggins; and two brothers, WA Lockler and Shelton Brown.

She is survived by four children, Carey Allen (Rebecca), Wade Allen Jr. (Laura), Carol Gates (Barry) and Barbara Wiggins (Bruce); five grandchildren, Stefanie Gates (fiancé, Yukai Sun), Kelly Fernanders (James), Charlie Sheerin (fiancée, Sarah Jane Stevens), Jennifer Simpson and Joan Wiggins; and five great-grandchildren, Jamiana, Kellen, and Michaela Fernanders and Jack and McKenzie Simpson.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Baldwin Funeral Home in Pontotoc and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, at First Baptist Church in Pontotoc. A celebration of life service will follow at 10 a.m. Monday with Dr. Lewis Harrell officiating. Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Program at First Baptist Church of Pontotoc, 31 Washington St., Pontotoc, MS 38863.
