Mr. Arthur "Harold" Altizer, age 76 of Raven, Virginia, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at his home. Born December 14, 1937 in Shortt Gap, Virginia he was a son of the late William Irby and Chloe Day Altizer. Harold was a 1955 graduate of Richlands High School. He also held an Associate Degree in Mining Technology from Southwest Virginia Community College. He worked in the mining industry for 41 years, having worked as a foreman at Island Creek and for the last 27 years he served as a supervisor for MSHA. He also served as a supervisor of Mine Rescue with MSHA. Harold attended Raven Assembly of God Church and loved volunteering at the church. He was an expert downhill skier and enjoyed sharing his love of the sport with others. He was an avid bowler and played on many leagues. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his buddy, Bob Baker. He was an enthusiastic golfer for 30 years. In his spare time, Harold enjoyed gardening and bookkeeping. He had a love for drag racing, especially his beloved 1968 blue 428 Cobra Jet Mustang. He was an avid traveler, having visited the lower 48 states and visited many national parks. He loved life and always gave 100% to anything he did.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Rachel Altizer Lawson;

one brother, Hubert Brooks Altizer;

one granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Altizer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Maxine Shrader Altizer;

Two sons; Harold Keith Altizer of Jacksonville, Florida and William "Bill" Arthur Altizer and wife Tamara of Midlothian, Virginia;

and one daughter; Carmela Dawn Altizer Reynolds and husband Brent of Pounding Mill, Virginia,

grandchildren, Justin Brent Reynolds and wife Allison of Yorktown, Virginia, William "Liam" Emera Harold Altizer of Midlothian, Virginia;

great-grandchildren, Logan Brent Reynolds, Andru Parker Reynolds;

brothers, Emory Ralph Altizer and wife Lila, Belfast, Virginia, Alfred Landon Alitizer and wife Ineda, Shortt Gap, Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Rev. Danny Altizer officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, Virginia. Pallbearers will Be Scotty Lawson, Bob Baker, Don Buchanan, Jared Linkous, Henry Linkous, B.J. Baker, Tom Cox, Larry Worrell.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 P.M. Tuesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
