College Football Coach, Major League Baseball Manager. He coached several college football teams through 1906-1949. In 1917, in between his collegiate coaching duties at Penn State, he managed the Pittsburgh Pirates for three seasons bringing them to a winning record in 1918 finishing fourth in the league from eighth the previous year. He became Penn State's baseball coach from 1920-1930 while still heading the football team to 30 straight undefeated games from 1919-1922 including a Rose Bowl victory. His college coaching record was 127-58-16. In 1937-1938, he coached the pro football team Cleveland Rams. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954.
