Delmer Smith, 80, born July 13, 1933, in Waterloo, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Visitation will be today at Morrison Funeral Home from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. The service will be Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with Brother Larry Burbank and Brother Robert Gilchrist officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
He was a native of Lauderdale County, Alabama, retired from Genesco, and was a member of House of Prayer Holiness Church. He loved and cared for animals and helped anyone in need. He also loved fishing and had a host of C.B. friends in the 70s who knew him by "Snuffy."
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by parents, Ott and Susie Smith, daughters, Mary Ellen and Judy Gale, sister, Frances, and brothers Bill and Hoss Smith.
Survivors include wife, Mary Lucille Bevis Smith; daughter, Debra Chowning (J.C.); sons, Timothy Dean Smith, Anthony "Tony" Dale Smith, and Terry Dwayne Smith (Sherry); brothers, Arthur Lee "Dick" Smith, Ray Smith (Louise), Rollen Smith (Robbie), and Ottis Junior Smith (Hilda); sisters, Helen Irene Tyree (Paul) and Beadie Mae Kelley (Jimmy); sister-in-law, Geneva Smith; grandchildren, Andrea, Trey (Jade), and Elena Chowning, Bo Smith and Kelly Singleton, Andrew and Zack Smith, Whitney Forbs (Tim), Tyler Smith (Nicole), and Turee White and fiancé, Kris Archer; great-grandchildren, Caroline Smith and Emma Forbs.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brother Elree Smith, Steve Butler, Rafael Vaupista , Leon Sharp, Jeremy Winslow, and Jimmy Vaden.
Morrison Funeral Home, Florence/Central Heights is directing.
