After a life well lived, eventful, filled with a great deal of joy and pleasure, saddened at times with grief and pain borne with manly fortitude, J P Merryfield has passed from among us into the mysterious beyond, the new life which he strove faithfully for many years to merit. The end came early Sunday morning at the Wichita Hospital at Wichita. The end was expected and Mr. Merryfield was prepared. He had been ill for several months at his home here in Mount Hope which left him in a hopelessly weakened condition for the serious operation which he underwent at the Wichita Hospital last Thursday, June 4th after being taken there on the first of that week.
Mr. Merryfield or "Jack" as everyone called him, was one of our most sincere citizens; optimistic, public spirited, frank and fair in his dealings with fellow men. His enviable personality and cheerful disposition made steadfast friends for him wherever he was known. The people of this community feel their loss and extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
Rev. Fred E Meaders conducted the funeral services at the Christian Church Monday afternoon at two-thirty. Complying with Mr. Merryfield's request, the funeral was Masonic. Internment was made in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
