John Washington Hicks was born in McMinn County, Tennessee, and appears as head of household there from 1860-1900. In the 1850 census he is the oldest child of William (his step-father) and Mary Bryant in McMinn County, with both William and Mary born in South Carolina and all the children born in Tennessee. In searching through Tennesse State Library records, McMinn County, TN, records, and Native American records there are no records of a Queen Hicks found. I am the granddaughter of Washington Parker Hicks, John Washington Hicks' 2nd son. There was no mention of his grandfather being "Queen Hicks". I live in the area and have been to the cemetery where John Washington Hicks is buried, taken there by my mother and her brother. I've also been to the cemetery in Jackson County where Washington "Parker" Hicks is buried just outside of Gainesboro, TN, and the cemetery in Putnam County in Monterey where Jackson "Porter" Hicks is buried. Up until 5 years ago we were still having the Hicks reunions in Jackson County, TN.
