Sergeant, Company H, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. He enlisted on August 6, 1868, in Company A, 7th US Cavalry Regiment, giving his previous occupation as a farmer. He had blue eyes, light hair, a fair complexion, and was 5 feet, 4 1/2 inches tall. He reenlisted on August 6, 1871, in Louisville, Kentucky and was assigned to Company H. Upon his expiration of his term of service in August 1876, he immediately reenlisted again, as a Sergeant. During the Battle of the Little Bighorn, his company was assigned to Captain Benteen's column, and he survived the battle. On April 30, 1885, he was admitted to the North Dakota Hospital for the Insane, where he died on March 3, 1886. He was buried in the hospital cemetery. His widow, Martha, applied for a pension, but was denied.
