Services for Walter were held January 01, 2001, from Zion Lutheran Church with Reverend Dean Nelson officiating. Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka in charge of arrangements.
Walter, the son of John E and Dorothy (Wagner) Joachim was born April 23, 1918. He enlisted with the United States Army September 23, 1941, and served as an infantryman in the Aleutian Islands and the Battle of the Attu. He was discharged in October 1945, and returned to the family farm.
Walter married March 07, 1945, to Olivia Pfeifle. They farmed, raising small grains and sold cream and eggs. After retiring October 08, 1979, they moved to Eureka, where Walter worked part time for local farmers and Co-op lumberyard. He entered the Eureka Health Care Center in June 1998.
He served as an usher of Zion Lutheran Church where he was a member for years. He held memberships in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eureka Sportsman Club and was a school board member. At times, he was employed as a land measurer by McPherson County Agriculture Service.
Survivors include his wife, one son, one daughter, two sisters and extended families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.
