Badgett (w/2 T's), stated he was a s/o William and Sarah Badgett who moved to then Rowan County, now Davidson County from Granville County. He was married to Jemima Kinney in 1805, she was a daughter of William Kinney, they had six sons and four daughters who were named, Charity, Samuel, Wilson (stated to be buried at Badgett Cemetery as well), James. B., Jonathan, William H., Priscilla, Jemima, Jincy and Daniel H.

James Badgett was born in Granville County, North Carolina, of thrifty French stock. He was brought up in a farm, and when ready to settle in life moved to that part of Rowan County that is now included within the boundaries of Davidson County, and having purchased a tract of land in what is Jackson Hill Township, cleared and improved a homestead, and was there a resident until his death, at the age of fifty- eight years. He was a preacher in the Primitive Baptist Church, and active in the ministry for many years. The Maiden name of his wife was Jemima Kinney. She survived him many years, dying at an advanced age. They rested six sons and four daughters.
