Leaving behind the struggles of this life, our dear mother, Phyllis Adamson Despain, age 80, passed on at the home of her son, Bruce, and daughter-in-law, Mary, this Tuesday last.
She was born July 19, 1916, in Park City, Utah, to honorable parents, Ephraim and Zina Eliza (Woodland) Adamson. She married March 21, 1938, Noal Davis Despain in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1995. Together they chose to fill the corners of their home with children rather than worldly goods.
She served in various LDS Church capacities: YWMIA Teacher, Primary President, Relief Society President, Organist, Choir Director. With her husband, she served among the Hmong people in the Colorado Denver Mission and later as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. She will best be remembered for sharing her talents with family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers: music, poetry and wit, work and words of encouragement, selfless and compassionate service.
Striving to carry on her legacy are her eight children: Sandra (David) Loertscher, Hollister, Calif.; Noal Douglas Despain, San Diego, Calif.; Bruce Davis (Mary) Despain, Salt Lake; Burke Adamson (Gail) Despain, Indianapolis, Ind.; Keith Leo (Darlene) Despain, West Valley, Utah; Ardith (John) Knudson, Wanship, Utah; Lee Dennis (Rosalie) Despain, Bountiful, Utah; and Wayne Kent (Cheryl) Despain, Holladay, Utah; along with her 43 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters and three brothers: Margaret Jones, Park City, Utah; Ella LaVere Gregersen, Murray, Utah; Jack Sterling (LaRue) Adamson, North Las Vegas, Nev.; William Jean Adamson, Spokane, Wash.; Bobbie Dell, i.e., Robert (ReNee) Adamson, Lakewood, Colo. Preceding her in death were a sister, Bonnie Mae; a brother, Lee Woodland Adamson, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 25th, at the 18th North Ward building on Second Avenue and A Street. Friends may call there between 10:45 and 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
