Viola was born on the family farm in rural Mallard, IA to Robert & Ida Grund Ulrich. She graduated from Mallard High School. On June 15, 1945 she and Arnold Christensen were united in marriage. They began their life together farming in the Rolfe, IA area. They continued their love of farming and the land after they moved to Iona, MN in 1971. In 1993 they retired and moved in to Iona, MN. In December 2013 Vi moved to Our Hospice House in Slayton, MN. She passed peacefully away; surrounded by her family, on April 4, 2014, at the age of 86.
Vi loved life - she took pleasure in reading, traveling and playing cards. She enjoyed nature, bird watching and campfires. Vi was renowned for her baking, especially her bread and caramel rolls. She cherished her church and church community. Most of all, Vi loved her family and friends.
Those that were blessed to have been loved by her include her 5 children and their spouses; Ron Christensen, Don and Maureen Christensen, Jane and Richard Peterson, Linda Wilkison, Jim and Tammy Christensen. She treasured her 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Marie Bonnstetter, Rosa Thomas, Walter Ulrich and many family. She is preceded in death by her husband and siblings Ann Dorweiler, Bertha Weber and Frank Ulrich.
Vi's celebration of life will commence with a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on April 11 and continue with a service at 10:30 a.m. on April 12. Both will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Iona, MN. Interment will be with immediate family at a later date.
