John graduated from Lakeview High School, Decatur, IL, class of 1967, transferring there from Ohio when he was a Junior. He was active in the Latin Club, track, choir, and was a member of the Lettermans Club.

DECATUR - John Francis Stenger, 52, of Waynetown, Ind., formerly of Decatur, died 3 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 7, 2002) in his home after an extended illness. Services will be Sunday in Liberty Chapel Church, Crawfordsville, Ind. The Revs. Allen Sparks and James Ireland will officiate. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Mr. Stenger was born Aug. 7, 1949, in Tuscola, the son of Francis Joe and Marcella Koberlein Stenger. He was a graduate of Glenview (s/b Lakeview) High School, with a bachelor of arts in education from the University of Illinois and a master of arts in education from Purdue University. He was a member of Liberty Chapel Church, Waynetown, Ind., an Evans Scholar, charter member of the Kiwanis of North Montgomery, Ind., former Toastmaster and active with the Sugar Creek Players. He taught in Attica, North Montgomery and South Montgomery School Corporations, all in Indiana. He also was an insurance agent and most recently owned the Touch of Nostalgia antiques shop in Waynetown, Ind. He married Maribeth Lefton Aug. 19, 1972, in Attica, Ind.

Surviving are his wife; two sons; mother of Decatur; six brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his father.
