On Thursday, April 18, 2013, Dorothy Ann Beam, a resident of Warrenton, VA and beloved sister of Jane Beam Daniels Stephens passed away at Fauquier Hospital. A native of Ohio, Dorothy was born in Youngstown on September 29, 1922 to Abram Dewitt Beam and Isabel McDonald Beam. Her grandparents were Mary Elizabeth McCleary McDonald and Thomas McDonald, a steel industry pioneer, for whom the town of McDonald, OH is named.

The family moved to Washington D.C. in 1938. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in June 1939 and from Washington School for Secretaries in the fall of 1940. Dorothy had a distinguished career on Capitol Hill in the US House of Representatives. Her 48 years of continuous service in government were from January 1941 through 1989. Notably, she served as Executive Staff Assistant to the Chief Counsel of the Public Works Committee in the House of Representatives for a number of those years.

Dorothy is survived by her nephew, Joel S. Daniels III, his wife Wendy, their children Stephen, Michael and Megan of Haymarket, VA; and a cousin, Harriet B. Shasby of Youngstown.

A mass in her memory will be held in Washington DC at Holy Trinity Chapel, 3513 N St., NW at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17. Family Services will be held separately in Youngstown, OH at a later date. Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown at the family plot. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to The Salvation Army or Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509.
