Jane Beam Daniels Stephens

PHOENIX – On Saturday, June 23, Jane Beam Daniels Stephens, of Phoenix, suddenly passed away at Fauquier County Medical Hospital in Warrenton, Va.

A native of Youngstown, Jane was born on Oct. 3, 1921 to Abram DeWitt Beam, and Isabel McDonald Beam. Her grandparents were Mary Elizabeth McCleary McDonald and Thomas McDonald, a steel industry pioneer, for whom the town of McDonald is named.

The family moved to Washington, D.C., in 1938. Jane was one of the first women sales representatives for Pennsylvania Central Airlines, which later became Capital Airlines headquartered at National Airport in Washington, D.C.

Jane married Joel S. Daniels Jr., who was the advertising manager at Capital, in 1951. Mr. Daniels predeceased Jane in 1968. Jane worked with the "Foreign Study Tours" of The Smithsonian Institution for years before marrying V.K. Stephens of Phoenix in 1983. Mr. Stephens predeceased Jane in 2001.

Jane is survived by her son, Joel S. Daniels III, his wife Wendy, grandchildren Stephen, Michael, and Megan of Haymarket, Va.; a sister, Dorothy Ann Beam of Warrenton; a cousin, Harriet B. Shasby of Youngstown; a stepson, Dr. R.V. Stephens and his wife Sarah of Phoenix; her stepdaughters, Judy Kennan and her husband Dana of Salisbury, Md., and Susan Stephens Harvey and husband Allen of Savannah, Ga.; her grandchildren, Todd Stephens, Marc Stephens and his wife Kelly, Craig Stephens and wife Susan, Kelly Houlihan and husband William and Christopher Kennan and wife Nicole; and two great-grandsons, Fletcher Stephens and Griffin Kennan.

Family services will be held in Youngstown.

Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown in the family plot.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to The Susan G. Komen Foundation or Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509.
