Carl was born in Stringtown, IL on March 15, 1924. He was the son of Martin and Helena (Zuber) Hahn. He married Pauline Marie Weiler on May 5, 1951 in Olney, IL. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2004. Carl was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. He was devoted to his family, church, and work. Carl farmed in Blue Mound before moving to Decatur and worked as a machinist at Borg Warner before retiring. He continued to work several years at Venture in maintenance and customer service. As an active member at Ss. James and Patrick Catholic Church, he enjoyed singing in the choir for many years and helping wherever needed.
Carl was a sport enthusiast. He was a life-long Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed coaching Khoury League baseball for many years. He was an avid St. Teresa Bulldogs fan. He enjoyed playing pinochle with family and friends. Carl loved the soil and tended to his beloved garden, which provided his family with the best green beans and sweet corn on this earth. He was a man of his word, yet was known to be ornery, traits he passed on to his children and grandchildren
Surviving is his son, Greg (Kim) Hahn of Decatur; daughters, Cindy (Kevin) McGreevy of Gulfport, MS; Carla Hahn of Decatur; and Peggy (Bob) Cheney of Piasa, IL; grandchildren, Keely (Alex) Gordon and Joel Hahn; brother, Jim Hahn of Decatur; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and four sisters.
Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 in St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with a vigil prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be Point Pleasant Cemetery with military rites. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
