Addalia Burrus (affectionately known as "Aday" and "Doc") was born November 27, 1933 in Oldensboro, Kentucky, to Mr. and Mrs. Frazier & Rosa Burrus; both of whom preceded him in death.

"Aday" was the fourth of five siblings, all of which preceded him in death. "Aday" made his transition on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. "Aday/Doc" accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age at St. Bethlehem Baptist Church in Pembroke, Kentucky. "Aday" made his pilgrimage from Pembroke, KY to Chicago, IL after being honorably discharged from the Armed Forces.

In 1961 he met his lifelong "soulmate" the love of his life, Carol Higginbothom, they were united in holy matrimony on June 27, 1964. To this union God blessed them with one beautiful daughter "Katrina", affectionately called "My Little Black Girl". Katrina was the "apple" of his eyes.

"Aday" and Carol was blessed with forty nine years and ten months of "true wonderful love" and on June 27, 2014 they would have celebrated their fiftieth Golden Anniversity.

"Aday" was blessed of God with an unquenchable desire for wisdom and knowledge, which led him through many doors in search of these gifts. He started this journey of searching for wisdom and knowledge through the doors of Attucks School in Pembroke, KY, where he graduated from elementary and high school. From there he enlisted into the United States Armed Forces, serving in both the Army and the Air Force spending time in the Korean War Conflict.

While serving in the Armed Forces, "Aday" continued his pursuit of wisdom and knowledge seizing every opportunity made available to him. He studied "medicine" and became a trainee as a Surgical Technician, a Scrub Nurse Assistant and as a Circulatory Nurse. He didn't stop there, he seized the opportunity for futher training and received two Certificates of Completion in the Air Force completing training as a Phase 1 Medical Trainee and as a "48" Technical Fighter Wing Trainee.

Upon completing his tenure in the armed forces, and receiving his honorable discharge, "Aday" continued in his search for more wisdom and knowledge by enrolling and studying at the U.I.C. (University of Illinois Circle Campus). It was here "ADay" made his decision to pursue his degree in medicine carrying a 3.5 grade point average. He then attempted to enroll in Medical School, but met some opposition due to the schools age policy requirement.

But this didn't stop "Aday" he sought out assistance for that door to be opened and yes it was opened. On March 17, 1970 a letter was written to the U.I.C. from the office of The Honorable Richard B. Ogline, Governor State of Illinois, which opened the door for "Aday" to continue the pursuit of his dreams as a career in the medical field.

"Aday" studied at the University of Illinois Circle Campus and worked two jobs, one at Presbyterian St. Luke Hospital and Cook County Hospital.

"Aday" took a short brief break from his pursuit in the medical field and went to work at Northwestern Railroad, but soon returned to prusuit of his career, and in 1970 enrolled at Gov. State University and earned and received his "Masters" Degree in Psychology. He also became employed by the University of Chicago Medical School as a Research Technician in the Field of Cancer Research.

During his tenure at U of Chicago "Aday" also did Substitute Teaching in the Chicago School System from elementary to college level.

"Aday" retired in 1996 but never stopped working. "Aday" became an entrepreneur in 1967 and 1980 through 1990, owning A.C. & K Trucking, Katrina's Lounge, and worked with Realty Services Consortium as a Real Estate Agent. He provided private child care for many of his great nieces and nephews. As you see "Aday" was a hard worker providing not only for his immediate family but also for his extended family.

For seventy nine long wonderful years "Aday" was blessed with good health, suffering only with "sinus" and every now and then a common cold. But on May 7, 2013 he was diagnosed with throat cancer, however after many months of chemo-therapy his cancer was in remission, during all of this time "Aday" never gave up nor did he give in to his feelings, and his battle against cancer, he fought a good fight, he stayed optimistic up to the last minute, and on April 8, 2014 around 7:45am. "Aday" took the wind of the morning, gave up his old sick mortal body in exchange for immortal body to be free of pain and the cares of this old world, closed his eyes in "sleep" and became absent from his "mortal body" but present with his "Lord."

Addalia Burrus leaves to cherish his loving memory his caring and loving wife of 49 years and 10 months, Carol Burrus; a tremendous loving daughter, Katrina Sims; one special loving and caring son-in-law who loved and cared for him to the end, James Sims; three beautiful granddaughters; LaRonda, Charnika and one Miracle Baby Ta-Tanisha; two grandsons: Darryl and Quincy; both preceded him in death; three sisters-in-law: Lillie, Vera and Veronica all of Chicago, IL.; three brothers-in-law: Robert and William of Chicago, IL. and Theopolis of Cedarburg, WI.; one aunt, Aunt Gracie B., of Pembroke, KY.; one special daughter Karen Scott; one special son Gerald Love (Sandra), one special cousin/sister, Mattie Davenport; one special niece Bonita Benson who assisted in caring for "Aday" during his illness; three honorary grandchildren; Lawrence, Lamont and LaKeisha; one special friend and porch buddy Charles Parham; eleven nieces; 13 nephews; and a host of great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
