Richard Harlow Hanson, 77, Prairie Village, KS, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, KS. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W. 71st Street, Overland Park, KS. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to John Paul II Catholic School, Overland Park, KS.
Dick was born August 27, 1936 in Oswego, KS, to parents Harlow Haycraft and Edna Louise (Wiebeler) Hanson. After his education, Dick served in the US Army in the United States and Germany. He worked for John Deere for 30 years in sales promotion. Dick enjoyed playing pinochle and bridge, and was a loyal fan of KU football and basketball. He followed the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals teams each season with interest. He enjoyed travelling with his family, raising a garden each year, and that occasional trip to the casino. More than anything, Dick loved his family. They meant the world to him!
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two daughters: Janet and Linda Hanson; brother, Philip Hanson; and a sister, Ruth Hanson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy, of the home; son, Bill and his wife, Michelle; son, Richard French; three grandchildren: Krista French, Nicole and Michael Hanson; brother, John Hanson and his wife, Mary Lou; brother, Bill Hanson and his wife, Bridget; sister Mary DeBolt and her husband, George; sister Jo Hanson; and many nieces and nephews.
