Raymond J. Allen, 69, of Sherrard, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at his home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Entombment will be at Rock Island Memorial Mausoleum. The visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made the Sherrard Ambulance or the Sherrard Fire Department.
Raymond J. Allen was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Rural Township, Ill., the son of Harry and Ethel Haddick Allen. He married Doris Harker Dec. 27, 1955. She died March 27, 1976.
He retired in 1989 as a forklift operator from Eagle Warehouse in Milan after 25 years of service.
He was an Army veteran serving with the Occupational Force in Germany from 1945-1961, serving two years in Germany.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Chauffers Warehouseman and Helpers of America Union Local 371.
Survivors include sisters, Joyce Holdsworth and Mary Nimrick, both of Aledo, and Ellen LaDue, Sherrard; brothers, Robert Allen, Carlsbad, N.M. and William Allen, Sherrard. He was preceded by his parents; wife; sisters, Ruth and Martha Allen and Jean Erickson; and a brother, Keith Allen.
