MRS. AUGUSTA BENEDICT
Mrs. Augusta Benedict, who had lived in Sparta most of her life, passed away on December 27, 10:30 a.m., at the home of her son Earl, on E. Franklin Street. After a long illness, and devoted care, she passed away peacefully, and was laid to rest in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sunday afternoon, December 30.
Mrs. Benedict was born in Germany, and came to America with her parents, who settled in Wilton, where they had relatives.
She was united in marriage to Melvin Benedict, and to this union were born six children; George, Earl, Kitty (Mrs. George Mowat,) William, Harry and Minnie. Mr. Benedict passed away 33 years ago. Two years ago this Christmas, December 20, Minnie, their daughter was laid to rest.
She is mourned in her passing by many relatives, and a host of friends.
A book could be written about her deeds of love and kindness. She was always ready to do something for somebody else. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was so good, so kind, so sincere, and so human. So truly, can we say, -- "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, yea saith the spirit, for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
Mrs. Benedict was a member of the Methodist church. She loved her home, and was devoted to her family, and rejoiced in their undertakings and life interests.
And so for me there is no sting in death
An so, for me the grave hast lost its victory;
It is but crossing with deep bated breath,
And white set face, a little stretch of sea;
To find the loved ones waiting on the shore,
More beautiful, and more precious than before.
The funeral service was held at the Lanham Mortuary Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Ernst E. Clarke officiating.
