Silas Tobias Strahm, 82, of Fairview, Kansas died Sunday evening February 11, 1990, at Stormont-Vail Medical Center, Topeka, Kansas.
He was born October 29, 1907, near Sabetha, the son of Edward B. and Mary Hartter Strahm. He married Martha Mary Beyer March 12, 1933 at Hiawatha, Kansas. Si farmed in the Fairview area for 26 years and then was a machinist for Wenger Manufacturing in Sabetha for 19 years. He also worked for the Fairview and Morrill Locker Plants.
Preceding him in death were' sisters Ruth Strahm and Lydia Wenger; a brother Elgin; and a grandson, Blaine Hildebrand. Surviving are his wife Martha of the home, sisters Tillie Wenger and Eva Alderfer of Sabetha; Elda Mae Wherry of Boulder, Colorado; brothers Orville of Wichita, Milan of Sabetha and Leland of Topeka.
Children of Si and Martha are Dr. Samuel E. Strahm of Pawhuska, Ok, wife Barbara, grandsons Greg and Bryan of Pawhuska and granddaughter Andrea Enloe and husband Kim of Broken Arrow, Ok; son Dr. Elgin R. Strahm of Pawhuska, wife Sandra, grandchildren Meggan, Jed and Amy of Pawhuska; daughter Mary E. Hildebrand of Stafford, Ks., husband Norman, grandsons Randall Hildebrand and wife Molly of Baltimore, Md.; granddaughter Janell Heyen and husband Bruce of Chicago, Il. and grandson Jason of Stafford; daughter Elaine F. Weigand and husband Dr. Joel L. of Wellington, Kansas and grandchildren Stacia, Nicole and Jerome of Wellington.
After retiring Si devoted his energy to his gardening and flowers. He loved to fish and took great pleasure in his grandchildren. People will remember him for his greetings of "Sweet Pea", "Sweetheart" and "Squirt Blossom". He was active in the 1.0.0.F. Lodge and a member of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb 14 at 10:30 a m. at the Delaware Baptist Church in Fairview, Kansas with Pastor Bud Chester officiating. Music was provided by organist Carol Schaible and soloist Alonzo Lambertson singing "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone" and "Does Jesus Care". | A family visitation was held Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Popkess Funeral Home in Sabetha, Ks.
Casketbearers for the funeral were grandsons Greg, Bryan, Jed Strahm; Randall and Jasen Hildebrand; Kim Enloe and Bruce Heyen. Burial was in the Sabetha Cemetery.
