He was born on January 3, 1931 to William and Mary (Eitnier) Barth in Defiance. On November 1976 he married Ramona "Monie" (Strable) Barth and she passed away on March 27, 2011.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the BBB, the Home Builders Contractors Association and the Defiance Fish & Game. Verlin was a US Marine Corp veteran from 1951-1952 serving during the Korea War. He started his career working for Hoffman & France, then Duerk Construction, In 1962, he founded Barth Builders and retired in 2013. He was President of B&B Store & Lock, Defiance retiring in 2013.
Verlin is survived by his son, Dion Barth of Defiance, daughter, Colleen (Thomas) Holley of Sherwood, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister, Violet Eberly of Napoleon, and family friends, Cricket (Mark) Hageman of Defiance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ramona, daughter, Beth Cline, 2 brothers Victor & Virgil Barth and a gandson, Joshua Holley.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 12;00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Joshua Schmidt officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Military graveside rites will be accorded by VFW Post 3360.
The family suggest memorials be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
