Willard Herman Alsleben was born Sept.. 14, 1923 in Penn Township, the son of August and Alma (Gaulke) Alsleben. He was baptized on Oct. 7, 1923, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn by the Rev. Diemer and was later confirmed into the faith on April 10, 1938, also at Immanuel Lutheran by the Rev. Hans Werner.
Willard attended country school in Penn Township. On Oct. 14, 1945, he was united in marriage with Elaine Tonn at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton by the Rev. Gerhardt Schmidt. The couple farmed in Arlington from 1949 until 1981 when they retired and moved to Glencoe. Willard continued to work at various places in Glencoe after retirement.
On Monday, Dec. 10, Willard entered his eternal rest at Glencoe regional Health Services Long Term Care Unit at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 26 days.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edna Streseman (husband, Ray) and Mable Gehrke; brothers, Marvin Alsleben and Willmer Alsleben; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ewald and Emma Tonn; brothers-in-law Harold Tonn, Raymond Tonn, Ed Vollmer (wife, Evelyn) and Clarence Tonn (wife, LaVerda).
Willard is survived by his wife Elaine of Glencoe; children, Larry Alsleben (wife, Diane) of Glencoe, Wayne Alsleben (wife, Janet) of Glencoe, Arlys Gehlen (husband, Bob) of Glencoe and Leon Alsleben (wife, Diane) of Plato; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Alvin Alsleben (wife, Bernetta), Alvin entered his eternal rest six hours after Willard's passing; sisters-in-law Janet Alsleben and Joan Alsleben; brother-in-law George Gehrke; as well as many other relatives and friends.
