James Elmo Christian passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 in Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Elmo was born July 10, 1934 a son of the late James W. and Daisy Kennedy Christian. He was a retired coal miner, member of the UMWA and a United States Army Veteran. Elmo was a member of the Canebreak Freewill Baptist Church and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James W. and Daisy Christian, Elmo was preceded in death by four sisters, Della Roberts, Norene Bellamy, Joyce Hopkins and Lois Parks. Survivors include two daughters, Tonya White and husband Thomas of Pageton, WV, and Jill Fife and husband Timothy of Chillicothe, OH; one son, James "Jimmy" Christian and wife Barbara of Asheboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Connor and Logan White both of Pageton, WV, Justin Cortellesi of Columbus, OH, Joshua Fife of Chillicothe, OH, Caitlin Christian and James Hunter Christian both of Asheboro, NC, and Levi Thompson of Pageton, WV; one brother, Leon Christian and wife Karen of Raysal, WV; special friends, Richie Kennedy and Josh Hicks and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 23, 2020 at 12 noon with Reverend Darrell Long officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Burial will follow in the Christian Family Cemetery on Rockridge near Paynesville, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV, Sunday morning August 23, 2020 from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 12 o'clock. Services will be held in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines; mask are to be worn by all attending, social distancing is to be practiced and no more than 25 people in attendance.
