John Kunz III was baptized on Nov. 15, 1868 along with his wife Magdalena Straubhaar by Karl G. Maeser in the cold waters of the Stream called Grundbach, at Zwischenfluh, Diemtigen, Canton Bern, Switzerland. He emigrated to the United States on the SS Nevada from Liverpool, England in July of 1873. with his Family in 1873 and arrived in Utah on July 2, 1873. On May 22, 1874 Magdalena Straubhaar Kunz died. She was buried in Ovid Cemetery, Ovid, Bear Lake County, Idaho.
John Kunz III on Oct.26,1874 married Sophia Straubhaar, the younger Sister of Magdalena Straubhaar in Salt Lake City, Utah.

John Kunz III served the first LDS Mission in the Kunz Family to Swizterland from 1884-1886. John Kunz III and his brother David Kunz were called on a mission to Switzerland and Germany on October 10, 1884. John Kunz III and his brother David left salt Lake City by train for New York City. They boarded the steamship "Wyoming" and saiiled Nov. 4, 1884, arriving in Liverpool, England where they met Mission President John Henry Smith. From there they went to Bern, Switzerland. He was ordained a High Priest on June 15, 1890 by William Budge. He was ordained a Bishop on Nov. 10, 1890 by John W. Taylor. He was Bishop of the LDS Bern Ward, Montpelier Stake for approx 26 years from 1890 to 1915. John Kunz III was sent by Brigham Young to make cheese. He was an excellent Dairyman and stayed at the upper dairies near Williamsburg, Idaho. John Kunz III died on January 16, 1918 in Bern, Bear Lake County, Idaho. He was buried in Bern Cemetery, Bern, Bear Lake County, Idaho.
