With the exception of two years immediately following her marriage, she spent her entire life not far from the "old home place," at the end of what is now known as Jafiwile Road.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Arlette and Steve Elston; her grandsons and wives, Darrell and Stephanie Elston of Singer, LA, and DaRyan and Amanda Elston of Hammond; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Brittney, and Simon. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors, all of whom she loved dearly.
In 1999, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 57 years, Henry Monroe James. In 1982, a daughter, Gwendolyn James preceded her. In 1994 she was preceded
by an infant great-grandson, Tyler. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Oscar and Minnie "Etta" Joiner Williamson; seven sisters (in order of their passing), Louella Narretta, Katherine Harmon, LaVern Manuel, Myrtis Flynn, Shirley James, Hazel Savage, and Alta Flynn; two brothers, Merrill and LeRoy Williamson.
Cwilla was the eighth of ten children, the last surviving sibling of this large, fun-loving, close-knit family. She was also the last surviving spouse of the large James family.
With a sharp mind and keen memory up to the time of her death, she loved to relive and relate stories about life from "the good ole days." As the wife of a WWII veteran who endured long, lonely, anxiety filled days while her
husband was away in the European theaters, she further developed her fiercely independent and determined nature. Hard work was second nature to her, and until the fall of 2010, she maintained and manicured her acre of property and adjoining subdivision property in accordance with her meticulous standards and details. Faith, friends, family, and flowers were her passions.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Gerald Flynn, 51308 Hwy. 443, Loranger, LA 70446.
The family extends special thanks to the administrative, nursing, and support personnel of Landmark Nursing Home, and to Dr. Anthony Haase for their care and concern. We also extend special thanks to Harry McKneely Funeral Home for their compassion and assistance.
Friends will be received Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond with funeral services beginning at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Church of God Cemetery.
