Loran Edward Glidewell
January 3, 1927 - January 24, 2014
~*~

Loran Edward Glidewell, 87, of Wichita, formerly of Clearwater, Kan., passed into eternal life on Friday, January 24, 2014, at Seville Care Center where he had been a resident for several years.

He was born January 3, 1927, on a farm near Sherwin, Cherokee County, Kan., the son of Fred and Letha (McKee) Glidewell. He was a 1944 graduate of Columbus High School and served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army during the Korean War years. He also attended Phillips University in Enid, Okla., for one year.

Loran's working life was spent primarily at Beechcraft in Wichita, where he was a parts expediter, and from which he retired after 30 years. It was at Beech that he met his future wife, Betty Barnhart. They were united in marriage at Hillside Christian Church in Wichita on February 25, 1972.

Loran inherited a love of the land from his father and made a large garden every year at his home in Clearwater. He and Betty shared a love of animals and always had several "fur babies." After retirement they enjoyed taking trips with their travel trailer. They were dedicated members of Glenn Park Christian Church in Wichita.

Loran was preceded in death by his wife Betty (2007), his parents, and his five siblings, Carl Glidewell, Carmen Woffard, Thelma Snyder, Dulcie Parker, and Glen Eldon Glidewell.

He is survived not only by numerous nieces and nephews, but also many great- and great-great nieces and nephews, and even three great-great-great nieces, a fact that he found very special. His family will fondly remember him as the uncle who loved to tell stories and always got as tickled at his own punch lines as any of his listeners.

Cremation was handled by Lakeview Funeral Home in Wichita. A small family burial service will be held at McKee Cemetery near Hallowell, Kan., at 11 a.m. on May 31, 2014.
