Funeral services for Byrhl Cates, 67, of Auburn, were held Thursday, May 17, 1979, at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Auburn with the Rev. Henry Eggink officiating.

Mr. Cates passed away Tuesday, May 15, at Stewart Memorial Hospital, Lake City following a lingering illness.

Music for the service was by Donald and Edward Toomer with Mrs. Donald Toomer serving as organist. Mrs. John Clapper and Mrs. Everett Garnatz were in charge of the floral memorials.

Casket bearers were Warren Presley, Russell Teague, Larry Stewart, Donald Meyer, Roger Petersen and Robert Freese. Interment was made in Ferguson Cemetery, Lake View, under the direction of Farber-Otteman Funeral Home of Lake View.

Byrhl Cates was born September 17, 1912, at Lytton, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Jessie Haradon Cates. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Garlene of Auburn; two sons: Ronald Cates of Westside and Dale Cates of Lake View; two daughters, Janice (Mrs. James) Truelson of Kalona, Iowa and Marilyn (Mrs. Craig) Evans, Jr., of Sioux City, and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Chester, Cloyd and Wayne; two sisters, Amber and Hazel; one granddaughter, Amy, and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn.
