Anna Marie Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Walker, was born April 28, 1880 in Frank, Russia where she grew to womanhood.
In February of 1903 she was married to George Brecht and in June of the same year the couple came to the United States, residing first at Denver, Colorado and later moving to Sterling, Colorado and Culbertson, Nebraska. On November 30, 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Brecht moved to the Hester Nursing Home in Benkelman.
Mrs. Brecht was confirmed in 1895 and was a member of the Culbertson Congregational church.
She and her husband were the parents of nine children, six of whom survive. Three sons died in infancy.
Survivors include her husband, George; five sons, Jake of Culbertson; Adam of Portland, Oregon; Casper of Denver, Colorado; Reynold of Beatrice, Nebraska; and Capt. Samuel, a member of the U.S. air force; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Coombs of Inglewood, California; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday February 13 at the Congregational church in Culbertson with the pastor, Rev. Henry Reiter, officiating. Arrangements were in charge of the Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook and burial was made in the Culbertson cemetery. "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by the Misses Myrna Schafer and Leona Brehm, with Wayne Fries as accompanist. Casket bearers were George Sitzman Jr., Robert Nowka, Carl Schafer, Phillip Propp, Cecil McDermed, and John Fries.
