He is survived by one son, Wallace Atkinson, Campbellsville; five nieces, Rachel Curry and Juanita Johnson, both of Campbellsville; Alberta Thorton, Greensburg; Margaret Anders, Louisville; and Geraldine Anderson, Bloomfield, Conn.; two nephews, George Atkinson, Campbellsville, and James Thornton, Louisville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his step-mother, Alice Atkinson, Campbellsville, and one aunt, Nettie Hampton, Bardstown; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, at Burdick A.M.E. Methodist Church. The Rev. J. T. Ballew, pastor of Burdick A.M.E. Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in the Atkinson Family Cemetery. B. J. Brown Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements and burial. Pallbearers were: Lenwood Bridgewater, James Arthur Sloan, Robert Lee Sloan, Jim Newton, Rudolph Taylor, Raymond Donnie Edwards, Poy Bridgewater and James Owen Bridgewater.
