Born July 9, 1934, in Fairfield, IA, she was the daughter of Randall W. and Frances Bailey Pickerel. On January 16, 1954, she married Gerald "Mike" Hoover in Lancaster, Missouri. He died on September 28, 1991.
Darlene worked for Blake Plumbing and Heating in Agency, IA, before working at the West Burlington Elementary School. She later worked at the Galesburg Clinic and then for Dr. Chandra in Centralia, IL. She retired from the Hawkeye Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Clinic after working there for 16 years.
She was a 1952 graduate of Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri.
She was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, the West Burlington Lions, the Silver Singers, Good Neighbors, RSVP, and a former member of the Circle Square B Promenaders. She was a volunteer at Great River Hospital, delivered meals, and helped with the Blood Center mobile drives. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, singing, and especially spending time with her grandchildren, and watching their sporting events.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Randy, one sister, Colleen, and one great-granddaughter, Annie
