After a serious illness of only four days, John Labott, 90, died at 6:20 a.m. at St. Joseph's hospital here on Sunday, April 11. Death was a result of the complications brought about by his advanced age. Mr. Labott was a retired farmer and lived in the town of Trenton.
He was born in Prussia, Germany, Aug. 28, 1852, and at the age of 14 made the then long and perilous journey across the ocean all alone to settle in this country. He came to Milwaukee where he resided three years and then worked various farms near Hartford.
On Feb 3, 1875 at Hartford he was married to the former Henrietta Schmidt. They lived in Hartford until 1890 when they moved to the town of Barton. Here they resided until 1914 when they moved to the present farm in the town of Trenton. Mrs. Labott passed away on July 23, 1919, and in 1921 Mr. Labott was wed to Albertina Goeblein. She preceded him in death in 1930.
Mr. Labott was the father of five children, two of whom are deceased. Those surviving are Richard of Milwaukee, Rheinhold of Chicago, and Mrs. Clara Groth of Milwaukee. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
The last rites were conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral home and at 2 p.m. at St. Johns Lutheran church, the Rev. W.P. Sauer officiating. Burial was made in Union Cemetery here.
