ROCKTON - Newell C. Lovejoy, 71, of Rockton died at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, in his home. Born June 15, 1929, in Roscoe, the son of Andrew Curtis and Hilda E. Klepper Lovejoy. Newell was a lifelong Roscoe/Rockton-area resident. He married Rose Marie Bates in Roscoe on July 30, 1949. Employed by Kelley-Williamson, Harris Tire Co., Kaney Transportation Inc. of Rockford and owner of Rockford Bandage and Tire. He was a member of Rockton United Methodist Church. Member and former president of Rockton Lions Club, Rockton Grade School school board. Former member of Hononegah Boosters Club and ran the chains at Hononegah home football games for more than 30 years. Newell's greatest pasttime was being with family and friends. He graduated from Hononegah High School and attended Marquette University. Survivors include wife, Rose; daughters, Julie (Dave) Nichols of Winnebago, Janet (Eric) Kibler of Bloomington, Ill., Jody (Bill) Ware of Freeport and Jill (Keith) Knoespel of Rockton; son, Jack Curtis (Gayle) Lovejoy of Rockton; 10 grandchildren, Staci and Scott Nichols, Ryan, Chad and Tyler Lovejoy, Ethan Kibler, Justin and Jamie Ware, Jason and Jared Knoespel; brother Norman (Joan) Russell of Milwaukee; sisters, Betty (Denzil) Showers of Beloit, Wis.; Geneva Graham of Tuscola, Texas, and Shirley John) Clifford of Ridgefield, Conn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; granddaughter, Kelly Ann Lovejoy; and brother, David Russell.
Services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in Rockton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Cheryl Esbrook officiating. Burial in Roscoe Township Cemetery. Visitation from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hononegah Booster Club and/or University of Wisconsin Hospital Hematology Department. Arranegments by McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton.
