James Lee "Jake" Whitlock, of 8300 Maysville Road Apt. 2009, Ft. Wayne, Ind., formerly of Raleigh, died 11:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Golden Years Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Masonic Cemetery in Raleigh with the Rev. Doug Holley officiating. Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at the Golden Years Chapel in Ft. Wayne, Ind. There will be a memorial service 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Golden Years Chapel. Local arrangements are in the charge of Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.

He was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Raleigh to Lee and Lola (Baines) Whitlock. He married the former Mildred Cable, who survives.

He grew up in Harrisburg and lived in Marion, Ind., until 1974 when he retired and moved to Ft. Wayne. He was a plant superintendent at Fisher Body in Marion and a teacher for six years before working at General Motors for 34 years. He was a Staff Sgt., 37th Army Division, 4th Infantry. He was a member of the Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church and the Taylor Chapel Choir.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Michael of Ft. Wayne and Gordon Robert of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Jan Tindall of Ft. Wayne; a sister, Grace Wilkinson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to Heartland Hospice or Golden Years Nursing Home.
