Dorothy D. Lomax, 88, of Tyler was born on January 18, 1924 and died peacefully on July 5, 2012. Born in Covington, Kentucky, she moved to Austin, Texas with her parents, Dr. George R. and Maresa Ellison Donnell in 1934. Subsequently, they moved to San Antonio, Texas. On May 29, 1948, she married the love of her life, Herbert Perry Lomax. They moved to Tyler, Texas in 1963 to raise their children. Dorothy taught business courses at Robert E. Lee High School for 23 years.

Dorothy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1940. She worked at Randolf Air Force Base during World War II. Later, she worked at the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. She graduated form Trinity University with a major in History and a minor in French. She also earned a Masters of Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in music from The University of Texas at Tyler.

Dorothy was a member of the American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Kappa, Daughters of the American Revolution, and past president of the Tyler Coterie. She served as coordinator of the prayer ministry and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Tyler. In addition to being politically active, Dorothy enjoyed gardening and providing meals for families in their time of need. She loved to play the piano throughout her life. Additionally, she was passionate about rescuing and finding good homes for cats and dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. George and Maresa Donnell. Her survivors include Herbert Perry Lomax, husband of 64 years.
