Born about 1781 in England, Richard Marsden arrived at the Port of Baltimore with his wife and seven children sometime between July 1 and September 30, 1827. He (a weaver) and his family are listed in the Quarterly Abstract (Baltimore Passenger Lists, 1820-1948) but the name of the ship they arrived on is not noted.

He is found in District 2, Baltimore in the 1830 US Census and in Baltimore Ward 10 in the 1840 US Census. Each census listed only the head of household by name.

He died before the publication of the 1842 Baltimore City Directory, in which his name is missing and his wife is listed (for the first time) as Mrs. Ellen Marsden.
