Mrs. Reta J. Isham Wales, wife of Arthur Wales passed away early Monday morning at the family home in this city. Death was due to locomotor ataxia, from which Mrs. Wales had suffered for the past year and a half. She had been at home for the past three weeks, and the four weeks previous were spent in the Rice sanitarium in Delavan.
Mrs. Wales was one of the best known women in Elkhorn and vicinity, having lived near this city all her life, and was held in the highest esteem by a large circle of friends as a result of her many noble qualities. She was born in Sugar Creek, Sept. 18, 1861, the youngest child of Joseph and Mary Isham, and received her education in the district and Elkhorn schools.
On September 13, 1883 she was united in marriage to Arthur Wales. Besides her husband there survive to mourn her loss, four children: Mrs. Earl Abel, Herbert J. Wales, Ruth G. Wales, and Burton A. Wales; also two sisters, Mrs. Wallace Hartwell, and Mrs. Frank Hendrix, Merrilan, Wis., and two brothers, Fred w. Isham of Elkhorn, and Harry Isham of La Fayette.
Mrs. Wales had long been a member of Congregational church, and was also a prominent member of the order of Eastern Star.
The funeral was held at the family home in this city, Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock the services being conducted by Rev. H. A. Schuder of the Congregational church. The musical numbers, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Lead Kindly Light " were sung by Mrs. Eames, the piano accompaniment being played by Miss Lulu Matheson. The bearers were C. K. Dunlap, H. N. Stubbs, Joseph Potter, Wm. Dunbar, H. C. Norris, and Chas. Nott. Burial was in North Geneva cemetery.
